I completely agree with your favorite thing about the UK being able to travel. I was just writing an email back "home" to Baltimore about that exact thing.<br>Great way to hear other expat stories!

Great interview NFAH. I also agree that everyone should have the living-overseas-experience! The governments should develop reciprocal programmes! It was bold to move alone, but it is bold to move at all--having a partner does not always guarantee success as the partners come with their own expectations and baggage that can hinder adjustment rather than soften the experience. Enjoyed this.

I also agree that living OS is essential. Immersing yourself in other cultures, languages, food, politics, poverty, (you name it) broadened my horizons and got rid that egocentricity we seem to have within our own country (especially western countries). I have also gained a different appreciation for my own country as people often reflect on their opinions and experiences of Australia.

I agree very much that everyone should live in a different country (3rd world is even better!) for at least a year. And that boldly leaving your home country leads to other bold decisions. :) Now that I've lived for a year with an outhouse, washed clothes by hand on numerous occasions and bought groceries in 3 foreign languages, I feel that I can do just about anything. Not bad for a shy girl from Arkansas.
